This piece demonstrates my understanding of camera, lighting, and layering in animation using Adobe Aftereffects. In this piece I utilized multiple moving parts within several layers of animation to give a sense of depth and make the world I was establishing look and feel alive.

To begin I refer to one of my notebooks with all of my ideas in it. In this project I picked one of my personal favorites, the moth rider. A man riding a moth using a dangling lantern to guide it forward. I then did a quick digital sketch of roughly what I wanted to animation to look like.

After conceptualizing the piece I began animation, beginning with a sketch animation of the body and its various movements, then roughing out what the wings flapping would look like, then combining the wings and body and adding some more details, and finally inking and coloring.

After I had animated the Moth Rider, I moved onto the background and foreground adding little animations to make the world feel more alive. After that it was a simple matter of uploading the assets into aftereffects and positioning everything in the correct layers and lighting. With that, the project was complete.
